Hairline Advancement to Diminish Excessive Forehead Skin in Women

Hey, Dr. Lindsey and Wendy here.  We’re going to tell you about hairline advancement for women. Now a lot of women roll in here Wendy, in fact we just saw one a few minutes that had a real high hairline and in fact it’s common in white people but it looks fine for most people but occasionally there’s a woman, like the lady that just came in where their hairline starts all the way back here and that and that doesn’t look natural.  Choice one is you can just do a hair transplant the lady that just came in will do.  We will do another video on her.  We’ve got plenty of examples of that.  The other option is to do kind of a reverse brow lift where we make a cut in front of those hairs and we bevel or angled the incision so that it preserves a few of the front hair roots that hopefully will grow back in front of the scar.  (I have a couple of videos of that as well) and then undermine underneath the scalp between the scalp and the skull bone and then pull that scalp forward, so this video is on that.  This is attractive girl.  How old is this girl?

She is 30.

She’s an attractive, fun, bubbly young girl who didn’t want her face completely shown.  You’ll see in the video that she’s wearing a mask.  I think you can still see who she is but that’s what she wants.

She had a high hairline and we talked about this for two years; no a year and a half and almost to the

point where I didn’t want to offer anything because I thought that she couldn’t make a decision and she was just torturing me.  Ultimately, we got to the point where we did a reverse brow lift or hairline advancement and a brow lift in the office about six or seven weeks ago.  Here is her forehead beforehand and her measurement beforehand.  Then this is at the end of the case.

Then this is yesterday at five weeks and you’ll notice two things, no there is 3 things.  One is the hair behind where we worked has gone into shock loss and has gone away, so she looks just as bad as she looked before except that hair will come back.

Secondly her scar is red and that’s normal.  The younger you are the redder it will get and it will fade.

I just did a face lift on her mother.  She will scar well.

The third thing you’ll know this is that her hairline has not slid back at all, nothing stretched back so I think we’ll get almost a full inch of hairline advancement, but I still think she’s going to want to do a full hair transplant next year.  She did this quick video a week or two ago, so take a look.

Okay, here we are with Stevanna.  She’s now six days out from a reverse brow lift to lower her hairline.

I did a face lift on your mother, right?

Correct.

That turned out pretty good, and then we talked for a year.  You tortured me about trying to do a hair transplant.

I did.  I literally think I have been here for a year and a half trying to convince him to do a hair transplant

on me.  My case wasn’t major, but it bothered me and he pretty much shooed me away for

about a year and a half.  I was very persistent and ended up lowering the hairline about an inch.

So, as you’re talking, beside you with your face cropped off is before and then a ruler before showing

the number of centimeters up and then immediately after; I probably had the

ruler up just a little bit and then the ruler today at six days.

How much did it hurt?

Zero, no pain at all.

We did this with you awake with one Valium pill.

Full awake.  Recovery was perfect.

It probably took 45 minutes and you came in every day this except one for us to make sure everything’s good.

Yep.

That black thing around your eyes; since you don’t want anyone to know who you are used to be up around your forehead to hold things tight.  After the first day that’s the only dressing you’ve had on you.

Yep.

Was I up front with you?

Yep.  Very smooth recovery and I love the results.

I think what will likely happen is that there’s going to be a little shock loss behind that scar line and then it will come back.  I made they cut in such a way that there should be hair growing out in front of that scar.  As I talk to you; you are kind of an uptight female and you’ve may want to put few hairs there next year, but we’ll wait a good year-year and a half to make sure, okay?

Sounds good.

Alright, she’s a fun girl and I have enjoyed working with her.  I think she’s going to be happy.

She’s already happy.  She knows that that little hair that she has here that has gone into

shock is going to come back.  Really, she is not bothered by the scar but I know that the hairs are going to grow through.  I touched it and the hairs were already going through.  Yeah but she likes perfection so, she is thinking that she may want to put a few hairs on to that just a little.  Like three rows in front.

In summary women have two choices.  One’s a hair transplant; the downside is it takes a while and the alternative is this hairline advancement, which is probably the best for younger women with

thicker hair.  It’s not for somebody my age or older who has a limited amount of fine hair.  They need a hair transplant or nothing but for somebody who’s has good hair and just wants their hairline lowered; particular if the have good thick hair, this is a good choice.
